Using Daylight Savings Time as a Reminder to do These Things

There are a number of tasks around the home that we are all supposed to remember to do once or twice a year.  But how often do you forget?  As busy real estate agents at the Lake of the Ozarks, we understand.  We have learned to use daylight savings time as a reminder to do certain tasks around our homes at Lake of the Ozarks, so we don’t have to leave it up to our memories or write it on the calendar.  So, Your Favorite Real Estate Team thought you might find it handy if we shared our fall daylight savings time task list with you.  If you would like to know how to use daylight savings time as a reminder to do these simple but important tasks, keep reading this blog!

Reverse Ceiling Fans

Your ceiling fans help circulate the air in your home, so the temperature is distributed more evenly.  In the summertime, you are adding cool air which sinks.  Your ceiling fan should blow upwards to draw the cool air up.  In the fall, you will want to switch the fan to blow hot air (which rises) down instead.

Change Filters

Whether you have a filter that needs to be changed once a month on average or every 12 months, now is a good time to take a look and see if they are dirty and replace them as necessary.

Have Your Chimney Inspected and Cleaned

Even if you don’t use your fireplace regularly, it is good to know you can in case of emergency.  Having it inspected and cleaned is cheap insurance to prevent a fire (or pipes freezing because you are unable to use it).

Close Crawl Space Vents

Just like with the ceiling fans, crawl space vents should be changed with the seasons.  In the summer you want your house to breathe.  But now it is time to close up the crawl space to help keep your home warm and protect your plumbing

Clean Out Dryer Filter and Duct

It is so important to keep your dryer vent from clogging up with lint.  Not only will a clogged vent cause your dryer to lose efficiency, but also could put you at risk for a house fire.

Drain Your Water Heater

Sediment can build up in your water heater over time, so it is recommended to have your water heater drained by a reputable professional once a year to prevent clogs and help your water heater run more efficiently.

... And of Course, Don't Forget to Set Your Clocks Back!
