Winter Staging Tips for Selling Your Home

Selling your home at Lake of the Ozarks during the winter is a little different than in the summer when things are green and lush, and the lake is full of people playing and having fun! The buyers know what the lake has to offer, that is why they’re looking to buy here. However, you still want to do what you can to make your home inviting during the winter months. So, today’s blog is about a few things you can do to stage your home during the winter to make the most of it and show buyers how great it feels to live at the Lake of the Ozarks all year round! If you were thinking about selling your home this winter and would like some helpful tips, keep reading … this blog is for you!

1) Make Them Feel at Home

In the wintertime, it helps to emphasize how cozy and comfortable it is to be inside your home.  Set the heat to an inviting temperature.  Let buyers feel like they could curl up on the couch with a book and just hang out all day. Add a few extra pillows and throw blankets and a reading lamp. Put a coffee cup and an open book on the end table, and maybe a beautiful unlit candle. Similarly, you could have a board game set up on the kitchen table and a scene set for snacks and family fun! As always, don’t overdo it, keep it simple. Just give your buyers an idea of what they will be doing in their new home during the off-season so they can imagine it being just as enjoyable in the winter as it is during the summer.

2) Fireplace Focal Point

If you have a fireplace in your home, make it a focal point! Draw attention to it with winter décor, unlit candles, pictures of winter scenes, etc.  Light it up and show how it creates a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in the home.

3) Keep it Light

The winter months can seem dreary when there is less natural light filtering inside. Try to balance that out by opening all the drapes and blinds and turning on all the lights in the house. The brighter you can make things the cleaner, warmer, and more uplifting it will feel. If your house still seems dark, add some floor lamps and lighting until it feels right.

4) Curb Appeal

This time of the year you don’t have flowers and foliage to frame your home and create pop. So, consider some winter planters with evergreens or a nice wreath for your front porch. A stylish doormat or a cool lantern can create some I appeal as well. Think about maintenance, too.  People may be more likely to notice untrimmed trees and bushes, or clogged gutters when there is no foliage to hide or distract. Take a look at the outside of your house with fresh eyes and correct anything that makes it feel dirty, unkept, or appears to need maintenance.
