De-clutter

It may feel like home sweet home to you, but when a potential buyer sees your home for the first time, you want them to see your home, not your stuff. Take some time between now and when you put it on the market to simplify. Reduce the amount of stuff you have in your house, or pack it up and store it, so that is not what buyers see when they tour your home. Since you have a little time, start stacks for things to pack, things to recycle, things to sell, things to donate, and of course look for ways to get rid of things that you and others can’t use. You may want to even think about reducing how much furniture you have in the house once you stage it. Now is the time to make a plan. That way, when the time comes you can showcase your house, and not your things.

Deep clean

If you’re planning on doing this yourself, it’s best to get started early. That way when it’s time to put your house on the market, you just need basic cleaning to freshen it up. It can be easy not to notice things like small spots and splatters on walls or trim boards, or dusty air vents, etc. when you live in the home. But you don’t want buyers to think it’s grimy or not well-kept, and you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Don’t forget the outside as well. Cleaning the whole house that thoroughly is a lot of work, so break it down and do a little bit at a time so it’s not overwhelming. That’s the advantage of having the extra time to do it.

Make Repairs

It’s quite possible your home may need a few basic repairs, that’s normal. But it’s a great idea to get those taken care of before you try to sell it. You want your buyers to know you have kept the house well-maintained, and not let problems go unattended. Right now, many reputable companies are booked out a month or two ahead. So, take a tour of your home and identify anything that needs to be repaired, and start contacting companies now. That way you can have the work done before spring comes and you are ready to sell.

(Optional) - Updates

While updates are not necessary to do in order to sell your house, there are certain updates that may help you sell it faster or for more money. Talk to Your Favorite Real Estate Team to get a professional opinion now, before making those updates. That way you have time to get a crew out to do the work before spring is here.
