Must Have Smart Home Devices

We live in a busy world! It seems like we are home less because of travel for work, kids’ busy schedules, and other social activities. There now is technology that can keep our home in the state we want it, without even being there. This technology is always advancing, and more devices are hitting the market, making options less costly. Your Favorite Real Estate Team would like to run through a list of what we think are must have smart home products for your Lake of the Ozark Home.

Smart Speaker

The smart speaker is a great way to get started and familiar with a smart device. Like the Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod, and Google Home a smart speaker will connect to your homes Wi-Fi and you can have it do many tasks for you. Not only will the speaker play music for you if you ask, but it can also be a virtual assistant that you have access to via voice. Hands-free activation by saying the correct “hot word”. Also, as you add smart home devices, these smart speakers can interact with some of those devices as well. As of the winter of 2017 it is estimated by NPR and Edison Research that 39 million Americans own a smart speaker.

Smart Thermostat

This option might sound silly, but a smart thermostat can allow you to remotely control your homes heating and cooling system from anywhere you have an internet connection. It can also save you money on your utility bill! Like programmable thermostats, smart thermostats have a scheduling feature for different times of the day. Smart thermostats can sense if the home is occupied and adjust the temperature to conserve energy and in turn save you on your electric bill. There are a number of smart thermostats on the market currently. Nest and Ecobee are among the most popular.

Smart Security Cameras/Doorbells

Seems like the smart products that protect our home have been very popular in the last few years. There have been many manufacturers that have emerged with smart doorbells and security cameras that connect to your homes network. This is a huge advantage over the old school cameras that require a device to store the video and a monitor to view them on. Cameras and doorbells like Ring and Nest offer allow you to view the video live or will store in online for you to view at a later time. These devices will alert you of movement, offer night vision and some even have motion lights built into the camera. There is a lot of competition in this segment and that has driven the cost down to reasonable amounts.

Smart Light Bulbs

Smart bulbs add some awesome options to what looks like a regular light bulb. You can dim them via an app on your smartphone without the need to install a dimmer switch. They are smart so they can be controlled from anywhere and some have a scheduling feature that allows you to set a time to turn on and off without being home. You can also change the color of the lights to match your mood or coordinate for a party or holiday season.

As you see these smart home devices can be very handy to keep your home safe and more energy efficient. Here in the Lake area with vacation homes, these devices can be a lifesaver. You could have lights on when you arrive at your Lakehouse, see who is knocking on your door from miles away or control the heat and air conditioner from your cell phone.
